The Best Gifts are Homemade - Spiffy Olives

photo 3Olives are an old standby.  Plunk them in a dish straight out of the supermarket container and there you go.  But, just add a couple of steps, the slightest bit more effort, and you have a dish your guests will remember.  This is another recipe I've stolen from my Mom and though I use it a lot when company comes, I thought it would be a fantastic gift for your friends.  Just place the combined ingredients in a jar and include a tag with heating instructions and now your friend has a homemade show stopper for their guests.

3 cups assorted olivesphoto 1
2 rosemary sprigs, cut in half
zest of one orange cut into long, thin strips
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 teaspoon dried red chili flakes
salt

In a bowl, combine all of the ingredients and place them in your gift jars. Your instructions should read - Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place the olive mixture into a heatproof baking dish and bake in the oven for 7-10 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
