Thanksgiving at The Pantry

It's almost become a cliche to say that Thanksgiving is your favorite holiday, but isn't there always a reason something is a cliche?? It is absolutely my favorite holiday because of the simplicity of it, because of the friends and family gathered around the table together, because of the idea of giving thanks, and of course, because of the FOOD!This year I almost decided against cooking it because I'm stretched so thin with consultancy work, but I just decided to suck it up, put it out there and see who wanted to join me at The Pantry for a Supper Club event featuring this most American of holidays best food. I've only got a couple of spots left, so I'm thrilled I decided to take the plunge.  Plus I have sooooo much to be thankful this year, including my new kitchen space, that it seemed a shame to pass up this opportunity. The menu I settled on features all of the classic elements of a traditional Thanksgiving feast, but with a definite farm-to-table approach. It's also one I've been riffing off of for more than ten years, having first cooked it in my little white cottage in San Francisco for my family. There it was all about heritage bred turkeys and heirloom this that and the other vegetables, plus an absolute frenzy at the Ferry Plaza Farmers' Market the Saturday before. Here in Beirut Thanksgiving is celebrated by many Lebanese people I know because of time they spent living in the US, but for most it's a bit of a mystery and I love that I get to be the one to introduce them to it.
