Greetings from London. What a delight to be back home with my husband and Oscar the Cat! After a very quiet and stormy weekend up at the shooting lodge I was desperate for some hustle and bustle, some human interaction and the three hour journey back from up North provided me with a gentle re-entry into a world I'm much more comfortable in. Double decker buses, black taxis, kids in uniforms being shepherded home after school, all of it looks exotic and new after two weeks in the countryside. Not eager to cook anything for myself for the foreseeable future, I walked up to our nearby high street, Clifton Gardens, to get myself a meal from the deli. On my way I stopped at the newly opened Clifton Greens - yippie! For any of you in London, who might be in need of almost any fruit or vegetable imaginable, this is your new green grocer. I can't praise it enough (and when I'm finally feeling like cooking again it will be my first stop)! On my left when I walked in, three different varieties of mangoes. Purple, yellow, baby, and your bog standard carrots neatly filled some bins near the rear of the shop. Different radishes, microgreens, lettuces, herbs, mushrooms, rainbow chard, every apple I've ever heard of, and some exotic fruits I've never seen before. The space is minimal, yet nicer than your average green grocer, with plenty of room to move around. There were a few clerks loitering around to help if you needed it, but this is a choose your own produce kind of place. I like that I can browse without feeling pressure to get a move on and with all of the choice here, browsing is exactly what's in order. This is the kind of place that gives me inspiration - with the riot of colors on display here, how could you not be enticed into eating your veg!I don't have any contact information for this place yet, but you can't miss it if you head to Clifton Gardens in Maida Vale.
